Moon Dates in Zodiac 2018 Reference Guide for North America
The most common time used for referencing the moon dates is called Geocentric Time and refers to the GMT or UTC time and dateline.
In North America, we are behind the dateline. This means if a full moon is listed as occurring on January 2 of 2018 at 2 am GMT/UTC, then the time or date of the full moon in the United States occurs up to several hours before, on the date of January 1st.
The dateline also affects our “Blue Moon” calendar. This may hold significance specific to your practices. A “blue moon” is the name for the uncommon occasion when two full moons occur in one month. For example, in 2018 in North America there are two Blue Moons. One occurs on January 31, 2018. There is also a Blue Moon on March 31, 2018. These blue moons do not occur in Europe when the moon phases reference Geocentric Time because, according to the calendar across the dateline, the full moon occurs on the 1st day of the new month.
